What Will Fix Us

CHAPTER 6: San Diego
Todd stood curbside at San Diego International Airport, fidgeting with his suitcase and garment bag. The lean young man watched the flood of cars before him; friends picking up friends, Uber drivers yelling for their fares, taxis clogging up the way, shuttle busses plowing on gamely. The glaring sun overhead was already baking. All about Todd, fellow engers were talking and arguing. It was always stressful at the airport.
But Todd felt a deeper tension. All week long, he’d been thinking over his history with Jane. Was she ready to dump him and move on? As much as Todd didn’t want to face that possibility, he didn’t see an alternative. Ever since he’d proposed that he and Jane “go on a break,” there had been no word from his beautiful girlfriend. No call, no text, no email, no nothing. It felt certain that Jane had moved on.
So Todd stood there in the hot sun, waiting. In his mind, he re-rehearsed the speech that he’d been writing for a while now. Jane, we’ve just drifted too far apart…
A white Honda Accord rolled up to him and stopped. With a start, Todd realized that Jane was behind the wheel! She was leaning towards him, beaming. To Todd’s astonishment, she seemed positively delighted.
“Hey stranger!” Jane cried out happily. “Needa lift?”
The last thing Todd was expecting was Jane to be in a good mood. Yet there she was, smiling from ear to ear, looking more beautiful than ever. After Todd had piled into her rental car, she gave him a happy peck on the cheek, then hit the gas. Within minutes, they were speeding towards the city.
“Uh… hi,” Todd said.
“Hey, gorgeous,” giggled Jane. “Its sooooo good to see ya! You look good. Lose weight?”
“Not really.”
“Well, we’ll have to work on your tan,” Jane told him gently. “Relax, we have the whole wedding weekend.”
“You’re in a good mood,” Todd remarked in astonishment. “After our last conversation, I thought—“
“Well, yes, we do have to have another little talk,” said Jane, flashing him a knowing look. “But let’s get to the hotel first? Traffic here is crazy.”
Todd was surprised when Jane led him straightaway to her own hotel room. He had his own reservation down at the Front Desk. Shouldn’t he and Jane formally end their relationship over dinner, or something? There was something else going on here.
“Okay, have a seat,” Jane told her boyfriend, plopping onto her hotel king bed.
Todd paused, then lowered himself into the room’s easy chair.
For a moment, Jane’s eyes flicked across the distance between the two of them. But she did not protest.
“Look, Jane—” Todd began.
“I developed a sex problem!” Jane blurted out from no-where. “I did. Me! Not you, me! When we had sex, I couldn’t climax. Like, never.”
Todd stared at his girlfriend. Jane had never been this direct before. Usually, sex talk made her squirm.
“Uh, well, maybe that’s the case…” he began diplomatically.
“No, its totally the case,” Jane interrupted for the second time. “I don’t know how or why it happened, but suddenly, when you were inside me, I couldn’t climax. I just couldn’t.”
Todd recognized the honestly in her voice. He crossed his legs and simply said, “…okay.”
“I think I initially tried to hide it from you, because its important to you to pleasure me, right?” Jane asked. She was so damn earnest; Todd almost didn’t recognize her. “And when you couldn’t because I couldn’t… well, our problems started there.”
“So that’s why you now want to see other people?” Todd guessed.
“What? No, doofus,” frowned Jane. “I want to figure out what will fix us.”
At this, Todd sighed, deeply discouraged. “Jane, I’m a psych professor, ? I’ve seen the psycho-sexual research on relationship issues like this. Once a couple looses their intimate rhythm, its statistically unlikely—“
“Shut up, shut up,” Jane said dismissively. “Look, I know what we have to do so that you can make me climax.”
“Uh-huh. What?”
“Hypnotism!” Jane smiled confidently. “Lissen, I know it sounds bonkers crazy, but one of the first things Lacy made me and the bridesmaids do was get hypnotized in a stage hypnosis show. You know, one of the big Vegas shows?”
“Those shows are psychologically manipulative,” warned Todd.
“Yeah!” Jane grinned impishly. “Are they ever. Listen, long story short, I got pulled up on stage, I got so hypnotized, and the hypnotist guy made me have an orgasm. In front of a thousand people!”
“What?” The young man blinked, his spirits plunging. “No, no, Jane, that wasn’t real! Jesus. It couldn’t have been real.”
“Todd, I’m telling you: I had a big, massive O. Huge.”
“Jane, I’m just gonna come out and say it: What you’re describing isn’t scientifically possible.” Todd scowled. “Look, at a Vegas stage show, they get you a little drunk, they use social pressure on you, and then there’s a few really sleazy mind tricks to make you mis the experience afterwords.”
To Todd’s surprise, Jane gave him a wry look. “Really. Can we try something? You ’nd me, try something, right now?”
“…like what?”
Jane hopped up, moving to her suitcase. She then pressed something small and smooth into Todd’s hand.
“What the…?” Todd found himself holding a little yellow squirt gun. “Seriously?”
“Go with it,” snapped Jane. She stood before him. “Now: Shoot me with that thing.”
For the briefest of seconds, Todd considered tossing the little toy aside. How stupid was this? But, if only because Jane looked so resolute, he immediately trained the plastic weapon on her, pulled the trigger, and said, “Bang!”
Jane’s eyes went wide with horror. “Wait, I’m not onnnnnn the…. Ohhhhhhhhhhh!” she moaned loudly, grabbing her crotch.
Her knees sagged and her eyes closed, and before Todd knew it, Jane was on the carpet, wriggling and groaning with ion.
“…Janie?” Todd asked in bewilderment.
“Ohhhhhhhhhhh fuck!” Jane gasped, her eyes screwed tightly shut. “Fuck, fuck, fuck, oh mammmaaaaaa!!!” She sang out wordlessly.
Todd’s jaw almost dislocated itself as it dropped open. Jane had screamed out “Oh mamma!” before… only when she’d been climaxing during sex.
Was this some kind of… joke???
For perhaps a full minute, Jane trembled on the floor, her legs and feet twitching. Her mouth was wide open, lips quivering, her cheeks turning a bright cherry red. Todd could see her breathing accelerate, then slow down again.
The moment ed. Jane went limp. She opened one eye, a faint smile on her beautiful face.
“…damn,” she said hoarsely.
Todd gaped at her. “That was real?” he said stupidly.
“Of course it was real!” Jane sounded mildly exasperated. “Jesus, that felt amazing!” She wheezed. “You coulda let me lie down on the bed first, though.”
“Oh, yeah, sorry,” Todd said, not without a touch of sarcasm.
Jane smiled happily, getting her breathing under control. “Damn. You so have to shoot me again.”
“Okay…” Todd said gamely, already aiming the squirt gun.
“No! No, no, I didn’t mean right away!” Jane said quickly, holding up both hands. “Damn, boy, at least let me get up off the floor!”
It took a few minutes for Jane to regain control of her legs. As she was crawling up onto the mattress, Todd inspected with squirt gun with great interest.
“Soooo… the stage hypnotist guy told you that this little gun…?”
“Yep,” Jane nodded.
Amazed, Todd merely said, “That’s technically just not possible.”
“Sure,” replied Jane, settling against the pillows. “And you call yourself a scientist? Why don’t you consider the evidence? Then judge?”
Todd nodded. “Tell me exactly what happened?” he wanted to know.
Jane stretched out, still enjoying the afterglow of her climax. “Okay: In the stage hypnosis show, they hypnotist guy put us girls under,” she recalled, her voice a little dreamy. “And then, he told us that that little ninety-nine cent squirt gun was a… what did he call it again? An Orgasmatron 5000, or something.”
Todd snorted in amusement. “That’s corny.”
“Oh yeah,” agreed Jane. “When he shot me with it… mmmmm…”
She closed her eyes in pleasure at the memory.
All Todd could manage was an interested, “…huh.”
“The hypnotist guy even gave me the gun! And at first, I thought the whole thing had been a hoax. I couldn’t use it on myself, for instance. So then, I did a little research to see if I could be hypnotized to climax again. And that research panned out.”
“Research?” Todd was puzzled. “What research?”
“Ah, I’ll tell you about that another day,” Jane said, embarrassed. “Let’s say I went a little overboard and probably put myself out there a little too much. But I got hypnotized again, and I had another fantastic orgasm!” She laughed softly.
Todd didn’t know if he should laugh with her or not. To his surprise, he felt an unexpected ray of hope.
“Baby,” Jane told him plainly, “I’m highly susceptible to hypnotism. Can’t you use hypnotism on me, in the bedroom? You’re a psych professor.”
“I…” Todd blinked. “I guess so. I’ve never actually read up on the theoretical underpinnings on the hypnotic state, but—“
“Hey, Dr. Egghead!” Jane playfully told him. “Stop with the bookworm stuff! Get naked, and get over here! Momma wants to cum with you!”
Grinning, Todd rose up. He was already unbuckling his belt. But he never once set down the little yellow squirt gun.
“Ladies and gentlemen…!” the wedding Emcee cried out, “may I present for the first time, the happy bride and groom: Lacy and Trevor!!!”
Jane and Todd and the two hundred other wedding guests burst into wild applause. They were on the wedding yacht, currently sailing about five hundred yards out from San Diego Harbor. The sun was brilliant overhead in the clear blue sky. The water was rich and deep and sparkling, absolutely beautiful. It had been a divinely perfect day.
As the wedding guests clapped themselves silly, Lacy and her new husband appeared, gliding forward from the stern of the little ship. Lacy looked stunningly beautiful, in a form-clinging white dress that technically covered her chest, torso, and legs, but still allowed you to appreciate every curve of Lacy’s trim body. No doubt Lacy’s father was wrestling with many conflicting emotions as he beheld that dress. But no-one else seemed to care.
As the guest whooped, Lacy beamed, her cheeks red and shining with joy. She was already a little drunk, which—Jane supposed—was probably for the best. Lacy laughed like mad, then pulled Trevor towards her. Bride and groom kissed.
Jane smiled happily, snuggling deeper into Todd’s arms. He was playfully nibbling on her earlobe, and from the closeness of their bodies, Jane could feel his erection growing from his tros. She giggled.
“Not now!” she chided her boyfriend, but not very seriously. “We’re on a boat! Where could we even do it?”
“Bathroom?” He suggested. “I brought the squirt gun.”
Jane melted a little, then kissed him. She knew that Todd had spent half the night ing technical manuals on hypnotic techniques. There was a whole world of erotic hypnosis experiences she wanted to do with him: role playing, delayed climax, restraint, master/slave, hypno-enhanced pleasure, and more.
“Later…” Jane whispered. It was both a tease and a promise.
“Okay, everybody, okay, okay!” Lacy cried out, seizing the emcee’s microphone. “So who’s ready to really get this party started, eh? Eh?”
“Yeahhhh!!!” yelled out Ashlyn, DeFaun, Sariah, and about two dozen other young women, scattered all about the deck.
“Okay, you guys,” Lacy went on, having a hard time not giggling, “so, like, two nights ago, I had this wild, wild idea for the wedding party, okay? On my bachelorette party, I made all my girls—where are you, girls? Ashie? DeFaun? Sarie? Janie?—I made them all go to the hypnosis show and get totally mesmerized, and it was So! Much! Fun! Right, girls?”
“Oi, Lace!” shouted our DeFaun. “How’s your wedding week going?”
Immediately, Lacy’s face went perfectly blank. “I got hypnotized in Vegas!” she robotically parroted. “Getting hypnotized rocks!”
Ashlyn, DeFaun, and Sariah howled with laughter.
“Anyhoo,” Lacy continued, already forgetting her little outburst, “I thought: What if we brought that fun to my wedding reception? Eh? So I hired…”
The bride threw out her arm, gesturing towards the yacht’s tiny stage. “…a hypnotist, you guys!”
“Oh, no,” Jane mumbled.
From between the makeshift curtains, Dirty Drake himself bounded forward, as slick and greasy as ever. He leered at the gobsmacked wedding guests. “Hey hey hey, good to see ya, folks! And as you know, here at Dirty Drake’s, we’re all about making you feel good…”
“Oh man,” said Jane. She shook her head, more amused than offended.
“What?” Todd was curious.
“Lacy didn’t do her research,” sighed Jane. “Again.”
Todd offered her a quizzical smile. “You wanna go up and get hypnotized by this guy?”
“I only want you to hypnotize me,” Jane told him warmly. “But you know, on second thought? Let’s find that bathroom. Bring the squirt gun.”
