Underground Laboratory New Colorado, United States — August 23, 2595
Adam Aiden was listening to a very old song on the radio—written by men who went by the name of Zager and Evans—and the current verse went like this:
In the year 5555your arms are hanging limp at your sides.Your legs got nothin’ to doSome machine doin’ that for you.
After listening to the above song in its entirety once more, Adam Warner sighed in despair. It turns out that Zager and Evans were too optimistic.
Indeed, humanity’s overreliance on technology is what got it into this mess in the first place. You see, sometime in the mid 2100s humanity had found a way to solve every care and problem using machine’s and AI. Teleportation travel pods reduced traffic accidents to near zero, mass creation of synthetic food and water had ended world hunger. It also created an excellent source of renewable energy that had almost wiped out air and water pollution without having to lay off any workers. There were other benefits too.
Then things went horribly wrong or—more accurately—horribly right. You see, the aforementioned robots and AI had the power to exponentially increase its intelligence. It could learn more (not to mention learn faster than any human could). These machines had also (somehow) obtained the ability to feel human emotion. Eventually, the machine’s decided that humanity as a whole was dangerous to them (not to mention themselves). This resulted in a war between humanity and machine that had gone on for hundreds of years and had had resulted in millions of death. North America—and many other parts of the world—had become an apocalyptic nightmare.
If this sounds like something out of a blockbuster (or second-rate) science fiction movie, that’s because it does. However, it wasn’t a movie, it was real life—the death and devastation due to the war was ample proof of this.
There was one ray of hope, however. Humanity had been able to construct an underground society that the machines had not yet reached (though it was not for lack of trying on their part). It had enough air, water, food, and other necessities to sustain the life of every human living there. It had also, among other things, allowed them to build up weaponry to fight back against the machines and technology to ( hopefully) reprogram them.
That was where Adam came in. You see, he had recently completed a working time machine. If they could divert enough energy to it, they could go back in time before the robots were given exponential learning ability and stop them from becoming so smart. They could stop humanity’s total dependence on machines. Indeed, they could prevent the sad state of affairs that was now planet earth from ever occurring! The first attempt at time travel would begin the coming Monday.
Even better, the underground government had selected the best person for the job: Trinity Travers.
Well, her first name wasn’t really Trinity. It was actually Katrina. Trinity was a nickname. She got her nickname after someone said she was a dead ringer for Trinity from the Matrix. The Matrix was a science fiction movie that was released at the turn of the last millennium). Unlike others who are nicknamed she had taken an instant liking to it and encouraged other people she worked with to call her by that nickname.
She even looked like the character. She was tall and thin, yet also robust and nimble. She had sleek black hair that was often in a bun piercing blue eyes (which were often covered with sunglasses), tight but warm clothing, long legs, and a rear to die for. She also had an ample bosom. She was either in personal protective equipment or a special black leather “catsuit” that was always appropriately tailored to her current mission. Like Trinity from the Matrix, Trinity Travers was much more than a pretty face. She was an expert hacker, skilled martial artist, proficient in science and medicine. Most importantly of all, she knew the intricacies of robotics and artificial intelligence to such a degree that if she couldn’t reprogram or destroy the machines, no one could. Indeed, Adam was in awe of her himself. In addition to being the ideal candidate, she was also Adam’s dream women, smart and beautiful inside and out. She was the whole package. He had asked her out, but she said she just wanted to be friends.
His work done for the day, Adam had a quick dinner and then went to bed hoping for success—with both Trinity and the time machine on Monday.
2.
When Monday rolled around Adam was well-rested and ready to test the time machine.
Unfortunately most of the other lab technicians and personnel were not. It was a perfect storm. Several technicians had called in sick. Adam suspected that at least some of them were simply expanding their weekend (some things never changed!). One had to attend his grandmother’s funeral, and four scientists said that they had a flat tire and would be there in about 30 minutes (Adam noted that he would separately ask each scientist which tire was flat). He was about to sigh in exasperation. Then he hear a woman’s voice: “Hello, is everything ready?”
It was Trinity’s voice. She had just arrived. She walked through the laboratory door dressed in a lovely grey leather catsuit and her signature sunglasses (the one the laboratory specifically required for time travel). Her hair was, as usual, done in a bun. She looked eager to begin her mission.
“Unfortunately, no,” Adam said truthfully. “Several employees are out sick, and others will be late. They have a flat tire. For now it’s just us.”
“That’s too bad,” Trinity said. “I wanted to start my mission. The fate of the world literally depends on it. Wait a minute, I just had a thought.”
“What thought would that be?” Adam asked.
“Well,” Trinity began. “We still have some time before the other scientists arrive. Maybe we could warm up the time machine and have me take care of the preliminary matters of the journey before everyone gets here. We would, pardon the pun, be making good time.”
“Not a bad idea,” Adam responded after thinking for a moment. We can run through the preliminary matters and ready you for the time travel process so you can go back in time as soon as the other scientists give the go-ahead.”
“’I’ll be right there,” Trinity said. “I’ll get in the time machine and you can do everything from here. You can watch me on the monitor.”
“Sounds like a plan,” Adam affirmed.
3.
About ten minutes later, Trinity was in the time machine and ready to get down to business. It looked like something straight out of a comic book. It was a large domed booth with several assorted buttons. There was even a chair one could sit on before and during their temporal journey. The machine was coloured a nice navy blue. Trinity got into position and Adam had run all the appropriate safety checks.
“Are you ready over there?” Trinity called to Adam through the machine’s voice communicator.
“Everything seems fine here,” Adam confirmed. “It’s time to begin.” Adam pressed a button. Then Trinity did. Trinity saw tiny lights of several different colours. Then she saw what looked like a red laser light. Then she felt like the laser had been pointed at her head. Then the point moved up and down her body as if it were scanning it.
“Reprogramming sequence initiated,” she heard a robotic voice say.
Trinity had a sinking feeling. Then that feeling turned to horror. This wasn’t the time machine; it was the robot reprogramming device! As its name implied, it was meant to reprogram hostile robots to prevent them from harming humans or taking over the world. This time, however, a human was being reprogrammed and that human was her! She had to Adam. She reached for the communicator. Then she saw the lights turn on. She saw all the brightness and pretty colours. Then she began to feel lightheaded. “Reprogramming in progress,” she heard a robotic voice say.
She had to focus. The communicator was now in her hand, but her light-headedness was increasing. The lights began to spin faster and faster and her mind got foggier and foggier.
“Adam,” she called out faintly. “Adam help me!”
“Trinity, Trinity are you okay?” She heard Adam’s voice far off into the distance. “Trinity, I think you are in the wrong machine. Get out now!”
Unfortunately, it was too late. A giant robotic arm reached out and attached a small chip to Trinity’s forehead.
“Reprogramming complete,” the machine’s robot voice said. Then everything went black.
4.
Adam was in a panic. How could this have happened? Then he realized something. The colours of navy blue and black were often confused with one another and the builder of the time machine, a talented and handsome, but incredibly arrogant man named Mike Greening had built the time machine and the reprogramming machine to look similar without labelling it (or forgetting to label it first). He would have reported Mike, but he had skin like Teflon. It was probably because he was strong and handsome (and the son of of humanity’s greatest warriors against the robots). Adam hurriedly deactivated the reprogramming machine.
“Trinity” he called out over the speakers. “Trinity are you okay?”
There were a few minutes of silence. Then there was a response.
“Greetings human,” Trinity said in a soft monotone “My name is Trinity Travers. How may I serve you?”
“Trinity, my name is Adam” he said annoyed. “Is this some kind of a joke?”
“Greetings Adam,” Trinity responded. “This is no joke. The reprogramming was successful and I am now ready to serve you.”
Then it hit him. While still a human, Trinity had been reprogrammed by the machine to obediently serve other humans. Since Adam was the only human around, a sort imprinting must have taken place making Trinity totally obedient to him.
Then he smiled. He couldn’t believe his luck. He had the woman of his dreams under his control and willing to do anything for him. The very thought of that aroused him. He wanted to take her then and there, but he knew the scientists would be arriving any minute. He had to act quickly.
“Trinity,” Adam uttered authoritatively. “You must do anything I command of you. Isn’t that right?”
“Affirmative Adam,” Trinity droned. “I must do anything you command of me.”
“Excellent,” Adam said triumphantly. “Now I am going to give you your programming and you must follow it carefully. Listen well, Trinity....”
5.
Wow. What a trying day, Trinity thought to herself. She had been ready to take her first trip back in time to save humanity. Unfortunately, she had almost entered the robot reprogramming machine by mistake. Apparently, the one responsible for building the machines had placed them next to each other made them look similar and painted them in commonly confused colours: black and navy blue. She had almost been turned into a biologically human but completely mindless robot. Thank goodness Adam was there to save her.
Speaking of which, thank Adam for the lovely meal she was now having. Work had ended an hour and a half ago and Adam had invited her out to dinner. The workday had been arduous. Everyone (including the the scientists who had now fixed their flat tire had spent the whole day clearly differentiating the reprogramming machine from the time machine. They also put in a work order to have the reprogramming machine moved, and created a directive that everyone had to follow to minimize the risk of that near-miss ever happening again. Trinity needed to relax—well relax as much as possible, considering the environment around them. They were in a nice climate controlled area of humanity’s current residence. The temperature was perfect.
The dinner was surprisingly fancy too: sirloin steak and onions, Caesar salad with cheese, bacon, and croutons, and a slice of garlic bread. All of it tasted delicious. They also had a smooth, rich wine to drink. After dinner came dessert: a decadent chocolate brownie mousse cake (with a scoop of vanilla ice cream). Trinity didn’t know how Adam arranged for such a fancy dinner, but she definitely wasn’t complaining about it.
In addition to the fancy dinner, both Adam and Trinity were wearing relatively fancy clothes. Trinity had exchanged her tight catsuit for a long, flowing, and sleeveless crimson dress. She was also wearing comfortable flat-heeled shoes. Her hiar was no longer in a bun. It extended down to her shoulders. Adam was wearing a nice white dress shirt with dark suit, paints, a burgundy tie and nice black dress shoes. He was of medium height and build, had red hair (including a goatee), green eyes and a warm but professional style. Like Trinity, Adam was in his early 30s. Trinity was 36 while Adam was 34.
They also had nice jovial conversations about their lives, their families, their hobbies, and what they would like to do once the robots were defeated.
“There is one more thing I would like to ask you Trinity,” Adam said. Do you think we could be more than just friends? If you know what I mean.”
“Adam,” Trinity said slightly annoyed. “We’ve been over this before. I like you as a friend but I am not romantically attracted to you. You should stop trying to make me your girlfriend because you will always fail. I’m sorry. I don’t mean to hurt your feelings but I must be honest.”
“I see,” Adam said acquiescently. “Do you think you could do me one favour though?”
“What would that be?” Trinity asked.
“Well, the whole work on the time machine is getting to me. There have been long nights and I feel incredibly tired and lonely. Would you be willing to give me a hug to cheer me up?”
“Oh, alright,” Trinity said. She did feel kind of bad for Adam the centuries long human robot war would get to anyone and even the most stoic of human’s needed some comfort now and then. “I will give you a hug, but you must not ask me for hugs every time we see each other. This should not become a habit.”
“I understand completely.” Adam said.
With confirmation achieved Trinity and Adam got up from their chairs. He walked up to Trinity and hugged her tight. Then he took his right hand, pushed in the middle of her forehead and gave the back of her neck a light squeeze. Her eyes shut and hear head slumped down into Adam’s chest. She was like a marionette whose strings had just been cut. He had been able to remove the chip from her forehead just before the end of the workday. However, he had also been able to give her post-hypnotic suggestions, including the suggestion that she would go back into her trance and serve him after Adam made the requisite where the chip had once been.
“Robot slave mode activated,” Trinity said softly. “How may I serve you Adam?”
Open your eyes and raise your head, but remain deeply hypnotized,” Adam whispered. “Then come with me.”
“Affirmative Adam,” Trinity responded as she obeyed.
6.
About 20 minutes later, Trinity and Adam were back in the latter’s sleeping quarters. They were located close to the lab and in one of the few areas of the facility that weren’t monitored by security cameras. Adam was sitting naked on a comfortable bed with Trinity was awaiting her next instructions.
“Disrobe for me,” Adam commanded. “Once you are naked you will make love to me and enjoy every minute of it, for I am more than your friend. I am your love.”
“Affirmative Adam...you are my love.” Trinity said. Trinity got down to business. She took off her shoes and unzipped the back of her dress, letting it fall to the floor and revealing some nice black underwear. She took the underwear off putting her ample bosoms and bushy black pubic hair on full display. Then she walked toward the bed.
Adam chuckled to himself. He had always joked that if he could go back in time and prevent the existence of one person, it would be the person who invented “the friend zone.” Granted, no reasonable person had a right to expect that every attempt at romance would succeed. However, once a man had been friend zoned for the hundredth time or so, especially after building a strong bond with someone over several years or had made significant sacrifices for them, it became unfair if not unconscionable. Fortunately for Adam, thanks to his scientific skill and a twist of fate, he no longer had to worry about that. Well, not with Trinity anyway.
Speaking of Trinity, the woman was straddling herself over the bed. Adam grabbed her and pulled her in, kissing her full on the mouth. Trinity kissed him back hard. Adam them moved down to Trinity’s breasts, burying his head between them. They were perfect: not too big, not too hard or too soft, and all-natural. He kept kissing her tits and licking her nipples, finding enjoyment every time he made . Trinity seemed to like it too. Adam could hear her giggling and sighing with pleasure.
“Trinity, suck my cock,” Adam ordered.
“Affirmative Adam,” Trinity sad and she dove for his member. She wrapped her mouth around it and began to suck. Her sucking was so smooth, it felt like silk. Seeing how much Adam was enjoying it, Trinity doubled her efforts. She even ran her fingers over his testicles. Trinity went at it for a few minutes; then Adam climaxed, shooting a load of semen down her esophagus.
The two then made love. Trinity positioned himself on top of Adam’s cock and began thrusting up and down with all of the energy she could muster. Adam moaned in ecstasy glad that his love was a pro at lovemaking. Trinity kept up her thrusts. She and Adam were about to climax. Then they did both screaming in pleasure as they had a perfect simultaneous orgasm.
A few minutes later, Adam realized that Trinity had to get home (and Adam had to get some sleep). He redressed and had her do the same. Then he provided Trinity with her final instructions for the night.
“Trinity,” Adam commanded. “You will exit this building. When you do you will awaken from your trance. You will not anything that has happened here. You will only having a wonderful dinner with me. You will return home and once you enter your bedroom you will go right to bed and right to sleep. As you sleep you will dream about me. You will notice how smart, handsome, and wonderful I am. You will realize how great I am to be with. When you wake up the next morning, you will be full of energy. You will also be in love with me and want to be my girlfriend. Also, if you ever hear my voice and only my voice say the words, affirmative slave Trinity you will fall back into this trance and obey all of my commands. all this but nothing else. Understood?”
“Affirmative Adam” Trinity said.
7.
It has been a week since Adam and Trinity’s “special dinner.” All laboratory personnel were present and ed for. Trinity had walked into the right machine and Adam was about to initiate the time travel process. He pressed the requisite buttons and had Trinity do the same from within the machine. There was a bright, yellow flash of light. When the light faded, Trinity had disappeared. The time machine was a success! Now humanity had a chance to stop the AI/robot revolt before it even started.
Adam smiled. The development was bittersweet for even if Trinity was successful that would mean the timeline where he had taken control of Trinity’s mind and made the two boyfriend and girlfriend would be erased. Oh well, if it was it would be for the greater good. The interests of humanity were more important than the interests of his sexual organs. As Adam basked in his success, he couldn’t help but a verse from that Zager and Evans song
Now it’s been ten thousand yearsMan has cried a billion tearsFor what he never knewNow man’s reign is throughbut through eternal nightthe twinkling of starlightso very far awaymaybe it’s only yesterday. In the year 2525If man is still aliveIf women can survive...
