Title: An Out Of This World Zoo

Categories: mc ff sf

Summary: An alien intelligence wants Earth females for zoological research, but they might be lacking some important understanding. Not that this is much comfort to the Earth females in question!

Epilogue — Upgrading

The three women were sitting in the living room of their apartment, talking over mugs of hot chocolate. The nights were getting ever longer, and the temperature was steadily dropping.

“Furie thinks we should move to only two nights a week,” Sofia observed. “Less foot traffic in the cold.”

“I wonder how that would go down with ‘our friends’?” Frida peeked out of the window from the side of the heavy curtain. “Furie’s correct, though, I can’t see business picking up until next spring.”

Sofia stiffened. “Maja, do you see what I see?”

“I do.” Maja’s voice was unsteady. “You recognize it?”

“Afraid so,” Sofia said, grimly.

“What?” Frida stared at her two friends. “What are you looking at?”

“The alien floating in the middle of the room,” Sofia said, apparently glaring at nothing. “You don’t see it? Maybe your implant isn’t working properly, or something.”

“I’m pretty sure it’s the one whose nose you nearly took off, Sof.” Maja scrutinized the figure carefully. “Yes, that’s the one. I see the scar.”

The alien raised its hand, waving slowly from side to side. Then a high pitched, musical “far-vell” sounded in Sofia and Maja’s ears.

“It’s saying ‘goodbye’,” Maja said, puzzled. “Is that it? Are we free? Have they finished?”

The alien dissolved into nothingness, and the women stared at each other.

Then, each of them looked down between her legs.

“Oh, no,” Frida said, with a gulp. “They’re leaving us with a ‘present’, aren’t they?”

“Aren’t they just?” gasped Maja, squeezing herself so hard that her fingers turned white. “The little bastards... Holy alpaca! I think I’m going to catch fire!”

“Self help, or group effort?” Sofia asked in a strained voice, her eyes squeezed closed.

“Fuck it, we’ve been through all this together so far,” groaned Frida, rapidly shucking her sweatpants and already-sodden knickers. “Grab my puss, Sof, and I’ll do Maja.”

Clothing flew in every direction, the three friends crashing to the floor in a frantic triangle of sexual stimulation.

Lati and Mifa watched the show from high Terran orbit.

“You didn’t have to come all this way, Professor,” Lati remarked, still unable to remove her gaze from the mass of writhing limbs and tongues in the holo viewer.

“Oh, my dear Lati, I wouldn’t have missed this for the world,” Mifa reassured her, staring intently at what Soeea was doing to Freeda. “Does that actually work? It looks extremely....”—she searched for the word—”energetic.“

“I studied their behavior when we laced their food with the human aphrodisiac,” Lati noted. “By the way, that idiot Domi screwed up the dosage for that experiment; they got about three times what they should have.” She took a moment to look at the holo again. “That said, we’re running them pretty hot from the implants. I wonder what else they’ll do?”

“We could send you down to look, Lati?” Mifa had a definite smirk on her face.

“Thank you, Professor; nevertheless, I’ll .” Lati paused, thinking. “If you don’t mind me saying, this interest in human sexual activity is unexpected, given that we’ve already concluded our studies.” She stared at Mifa. “Do you have something else... in the pipeline?”

“All in good time, Lati.” Mifa watched with satisfaction as the humans collapsed on their floor, panting. “For now, we let them go.”

The three women were in a sweaty, exhausted heap on the carpet. Eventually, they would have to haul themselves up and start a clean-up, but for now their positions were good enough.

“Ay. I think I came three times,” Frida groaned. “And strained every single flippin’ muscle in my groin.”

“I hear you,” Maja muttered, sweat dripping from her face. “How about you, Sof?”

“Like I got off with an offshore oil platform’s drill.” Sofia wiped her forehead, nose twitching as Frida’s scent wafted from her fingers.

“Wait—I feel dizzy.” Maja blinked. “Something is... different. Disconnected?”

“I feel it too,” Frida confirmed. “Like... like someone just hung up a telephone.”

Sofia looked back and forth at her friends. “The implants, do you think? I suppose they didn’t want to leave them in us now that we’re ‘free’.”

“They’d better not have taken any of my brain with it,” growled Maja. She shook her head, experimentally. “No, I can’t tell.”

“Well, let’s assume we’re free, ladies.” Maja staggered to her feet, walked to the fridge and pulled out a half liter of aquavit. “I was saving this for a special occasion, and I think that this counts.”

The women retrieved their clothing, and congregated at the breakfast bar as Maja poured the shots, and ed out the glasses. “To us: the only alien zoo specimens on Earth!”

“That we know of,” laughed Frida. ”Skål!

Skål!” They drank, and Maja started refills.

“We should write a book about this,” Sofia mused.

“Oh come on, no-one would believe us.” Frida was searching through the fridge for a lime that might still have some juice left.

Maja cleared her throat. “Might I, ladies, remind you of the existence of ‘sci-fi’?”

“You’d need a really niche audience, given what they did to us!” Sofia downed her glass. “Fill it up, girl.”

“You’ve mapped the information flow of the entire human mind?” Lati stared at the two incredibly complex meshes, clearly very similar yet detectably different, as they slowly rotated in the middle of the lab.“

“Two of them. Yes.” Mifa’s tone redefined the word ‘smug’.

“That’s just... The updated implants!” Lati slapped her head. “They were streaming data while the humans went about their business, and we were monitoring them to ensure they didn’t do anything to leak information, so we could correlate action to flow.”

“A level of observation violating standard species privacy directives—but explicitly approved because of the security issues.” Mifa practically preened.

Lati bowed before her mistress. “Brilliant, Professor! But, what now?”

“Now, my young colleague, we can fully program the successor species for Terra.” Mifa led Lati to a corner where she unveiled a coffin-like object. “Human 2.0!”

Lati peered through the crystal covering. The shadow was unmistakable. “A human female?”

“With a parthenogenetic reproduction mechanism, courtesy of our generic engineering experts,” Mifa clarified. “The egg combines with a polar body to restore diploidity. As a result, there’s very little natural genetic divergence, so we can select traits that are effectively permanent. With a bank of more than fifty prime specimens, and some mix-and-match, we will have an established population with exactly the diversity we desire.”

Lati looked harder at the body. It was unmistakably similar to the blonde specimen which had given them so much trouble. “Aren’t you concerned about...”—she searched for appropriate words—“their free will?”

“Of course! But in a species where we have a complete map of the brain information flow, we can adjust the channels for any combination of psychological traits that we want.” Mifa chuckled. “As we introduce these grown specimens into Terran society, the humans of this area will experience a societal evolution that they cannot comprehend!”

“Once we figure out the language barrier,” Lati reminded her.

Mifa deflated. ”Yes, but our Language Institute promises success any day now. Soon, Lati. Soon...“

Keeper Faso pulled herself up onto the heart-shaped bed, and collapsed onto the red satin cover, staring at the ceiling.

“I miss you all,” she confessed. “It’s not the same without you. Soeea’s kindness, Maya’s understanding, Freeda’s prickliness...”

She sniffed the air. “Not even a trace of your scent left for me to . Oh, my.” Her deep blue eyes took on a tinge of cyan.

“I’m sorry about Professor Faso.” She drew in a breath. “She has a job to do, and I’m sure that she initially meant well, but she got... lost, shall I say?”

She used her wrist control to call up a video; the three specimens, in their new Terran living space, growling at each other in obvious happiness.

“Fuck it!” she snapped. “I’m coming to you. Watch out, ‘Earth’, you’re about to get a resident who will rock your world...”
